About 'southwest florida college ft myers'|You knew it was coming: Watchmen








               The               University               of               Florida               has               enjoyed               much               athletic               success               in               recent               times.

The               football               and               men's               basketball               teams               each               won               two               NCAA               Championships               in               the               past               half               decade.

Additionally,               both               the               Gator               women's               softball               and               men's               baseball               teams               reached               the               finals               of               their               respective               championships               this               past               spring.

The               college               town               of               Gainesville               and               entire               state               of               Florida               are               getting               accustomed               to               winning.
               This               is               also               true               of               the               Gators'               successful               track               and               field               program,               led               by               rising               junior               sprinter               Tony               McQuay               of               Riviera               Beach,               Florida.

The               Gators               are               coached               by               Mike               Holloway,               who               has               guided               the               track               and               field               team               since               2002.

Holloway               has               been               named               an               assistant               coach               for               the               United               States               2012               Olympic               team               and               will               work               with               sprinters               and               hurdlers.

This               certainly               gives               an               edge               to               McQuay               in               competing               for               the               USA               at               the               London               Olympics.
               A               former               high               school               football               player,               Tony               McQuay               was               a               track               star               even               prior               to               his               arrival               in               Gainesville.

McQuay               won               the               2009               FHSAA               state               championships               in               his               signature               event,               the               400               meter               dash.

His               success               has               continued               in               college               and               now               brings               glory               to               the               Gators'               program               as               a               whole.
               On               June               11,               2011,               the               University               of               Florida               scored               a               third               place               finish               at               the               NCAA               Outdoor               Championships               in               Des               Moines,               Iowa.

McQuay               participated               in               both               the               400               meter               dash               and               4x400               meter               relay.

He               posted               the               top               overall               time               in               qualifying               for               the               400               meter               sprint,               with               a               44.87               second               run,               and               finished               second               in               the               finals               behind               Kirani               James               of               Alabama.

Furthermore,               he               anchored               the               squad's               4x400               relay               and               aided               a               sixth               place               showing               in               the               finals.
               The               month               of               June               soon               produced               even               better               results               for               the               Olympic               hopeful.

Competing               at               the               2011               US               Outdoor               Track               and               Field               Championships               in               Eugene,               Oregon,               Tony               McQuay               shocked               the               track               community               by               defeating               former               Olympic               gold               medalist               and               world               champion               Jeremy               Wariner.

Posting               a               blistering               time               of               44.68               seconds,               McQuay               blew               past               Wariner               during               the               race's               final               100               meters.
               The               win               has               the               collegiate               junior               very               confident,               as               he               attempts               to               earn               a               place               on               the               US               national               team.

McQuay               told               the               Associated               Press,               "I               want               to               break               the               world               record.

I've               got               my               mind               set               on               that."
               Michael               Johnson's               time               of               43.18               has               been               the               400               meter               record               since               1999.

If               McQuay               can               continue               his               quest               of               approaching               that               mark,               he               surely               will               have               a               spot               running               for               America               in               the               2012               Summer               Olympics.
